Pupils and teachers of St John’s Church School in Peterborough were carol singing their way to people’s hearts in the Orton Gate shopping centre today. The whole school joined in – that’s about 200 people singing their hearts out for The Leprosy Mission! Headmistress Collete Firth wanted to reach out into the local community by doing something for people other than themselves and decided to donate the proceeds of their collection to The Leprosy Mission as we are also based in Peterborough.
The school were invited to turn on the Christmas lights. They sang all-time favourites such as ‘Away in a manger’, ‘Jingle Bell Rock’, ‘The Calypso Carol’ along with other traditional favourites.
The school will present the money they’ve collected when our local Area Co-ordinator Mike, visits the school at the time of World Leprosy Day, in the last week of January, to talk about our work.
Huge thanks to all the staff and pupils for thinking of people affected by leprosy and for braving the rainy weather to sing to the shoppers. We’re sure it must have brightened up their day!
